No I am not talking about getting older I am referring to a run-in with "The Five-Oh" we had about 3 weeks ago.
Let me set the scene.
I had scheduled a play-date with my wonderful friend Amy. Amy lives here with her family, actually really close to us and has 2 little boys. So Coop and I hopped on our bike and we met at 6:30 at the park around the corner from my house.
It was so fun. Amy's oldest was running around with Coop and they were have a jolly old time.
Then comes "The Phone Call".
7:30 PM
Nick" Tawny did you drive the car"
Tawny "No. You know I rode my bake"
Nick"Well our car was just seen drag racing down the parkway"(the big road by our house)
Tawny "What!"
Nick "They said it was a female driver"
Tawny "What"
(In The background I hear>"Let me talk to her")
Cop "Hello Mam"
Tawny "Hello"
Cop "When did you drive the car last"
Tawny "When I picked up my husband from work"
Cop "Where are you now"
Tawny "At a Playdate at the park"
Cop "So what time did you drive to the park"
Tawny " I got here at 6:30, but i rode my bike"
Cop "so you were driving at 6:30"
Tawny "No I rode my bake"
Cop "mam let me explain the situation to you. at approx 7:10 this evening your car was seen racing down the Parkway by a concerned citizen . The citizen gave a description and license plate number and said the driver was a female. I located your address and the engine is still warm on your car"
Tawny "I have been here"
Cop "Mam I am just making you aware and you will be receiving a citation.
Tawny "What, I am right around the corner I will be there in 1 minute"
So I loaded up my angry boy (he kind of has to be weaned slowly off the park) Asked my friend and her husband to accompany me back to the house as witnesses. When we get to the house Amy valiantly sticks up for me, though the cop does not seem to care.
He once again repeats the charges, and I ask if there is any way it is just one of my students playing a joke.
Cop "Oh no mam. That is a felony"
So he calls dispatch and has them call "the complainant" to get a description of, what he is sure will be, me.
At this point the person decided to drop the charges.........................but is it over? Oh no.
He then proceeds to tell me what actually happened. Instead of the spun up version he told before, I guess to get me to confess.
Some guy had called in with the following description "Blue SUV, female driver and a couple of the same numbers as our license plate"
Now do you remember our car? We drive a black Pontiac Vibe!
Now remember the previous conversation. "we were given a license plate number and located your address" Turns out he could not locate the license, but happened to be driving through our subdivision, saw our car in the open garage ( Open cause I was riding my bike) , and put 2 and 486 together to make 4 and Voila, I was guilty.
And by our engine being hot.
He meant it was a little warm to the touch, sitting in our 100 degree garage!
But it was just to much of a Coincidence for him to pass up!

That's some water to tread. Holy smokes. Some people wouldn't know an honest person if they bit them. Maybe you should have bitten the cop :) eww never mind. Sorry you've had run in with the law lately and not even for a good reason. (I was sure you were going to say your car had been stolen--so glad it was not)
that is seriously annoying! shouldn't he be out catching bad guys or something? ugh!
I love how the cop's gut instinct was to come check out our mostly 55 & older subdivision. Yes, this is a real hotbed of criminal activity. Sometimes we even park on the wrong side of the street *gasp*!
